I’ve been podcasting, with my own show, for a year and a half now. While there have been times when I’ve harboured doubt and wondered if it’s worth the time and commitment it takes, more recently I have come to realise it’s the best networking I’ve ever done.
My top reasons why it works so well for me:
- I can do it from my home office
- I do it when it suits me
- It gives international reach with no need to travel
- Podcasts have a long shelf life
- Podcasts can be embedded anywhere (see four different examples below)
- Worldwide syndication is a breeze
- It opens doors and generates serendipities that blow your mind …
… and if you want an example of this last reason, check out this series of podcasts
This first podcast with Stephen Campbell on The Author Biz recorded in May this year …
… lead directly to this podcast recorded in June with Tori Eldridge on The Zone Show …

Hmmm…. interesting article Tom! I’ve been podcasting myself for a few months, and am at exactly that point of “Is it worth the time and effort?”
I LOVE the conversations and networking, yet it feels like nothing concrete has come of it yet. So perhaps a case of making the journey the destination, for now?
Hi Leisel, it’s a bit like writing books, if you keep at it, a tipping point does arrive. For me it happened at around 12 months and 100 episodes (also at book #10)
Thanks Tom – very good to hear there is indeed a tipping point. One just has to keep at it long enough, then. Love these podcasts above, listening right now 🙂
Hey Tom – Thanks for the shout out. The cumulative benefits of podcasting really are amazing, but it does take time. One of the unexpected benefits for me has been learning to accept meditation as a productivity tool, which came after the chat you linked to above. Thank you for the inspiration.
